Winter is a great time of year to pamper your skin.

Spring will be here before we know it, and no doubt, you will want to look your best as soon as it’s time to start showing a little more skin. This is a great time of year to do some “maintenance” so that in a few months from now, you will be looking best.

Some of the treatments I recommend to do in the winter months:

Obagi is my favorite skin care regime to get rid of sun spots. If you haven’t tried Obagi, I recommend you talk to your dermatologist about how it might be able to even out your skin tone. If you are someone who has been in the sun a lot, this system can dramatically improve your skin tone.

Obagi is anti-aging therapy that penetrates below the skin’s surface to transform skin cell functions at the cellular level and correct the damage, revealing healthy, younger-looking skin.

Obagi could be right for you if have: Age spots, fine lines and wrinkles, rough skin, skin laxity (loss of elasticity), Erythema (redness), Sallowness (yellowish complexion), Hyperpigmentation (discoloration)

Another treatment that dramatically reduces sun spots, and helps tighten your skin is an IPL, short for intense pulsed light. This popular treatment that is best-known for its ability to treat the brown spots or “age spots” caused by sun damage, and  vascular conditions like broken capillaries (“spider veins”). IPL also stimulates the production of collagen, which plumps up the skin and gives you a fresher look, and refines or tightens large pores.

An IPL does not take long, and you will see results within a few days. There is no down time with an IPL. And IPL and Obagi can be used in combination to see great results.

Chemical Peels are also best to do in the winter, when you skin is out of the sun.

Chemical peels can be done on the face, neck, or hands. They can be used to: Reduce fine lines under the eyes and around the mouth, treat wrinkles caused by sun damage and aging, improve the appearance of mild scars, treat certain types of acne, reduce age spots, freckles, and dark patches (melasma) due to pregnancy or taking birth control pills, improve the look and feel of skin, areas of sun damage may improve after chemical peeling.

After a chemical peel, skin is temporarily more sensitive to the sun, so wear sunscreen every day. It should say “broad-spectrum” on the label, meaning it protects against the sun’s UVA and UVB rays. Limit your time in the sun, especially between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., and wear a wide-brimmed hat.

Coolsculpt: Get rid of muffin tops!

Only CoolSculpting targets fat cells alone, eliminating them in an easy, non-intrusive fashion that exercise and diet can’t achieve as quickly or as effectively.

Minimal Downtime and Lasting Results.
Unlike a lot of other procedures, CoolSculpting takes very little time and is pretty simple to fit into your daily life. After your CoolSculpting treatment you can typically get right back to your busy day. Each treatment lasts one hour – the same time you might spend at the gym. So you can easily fit your appointment into a lunch break.

After one visit, you’ll typically see a noticeable reduction of fat. It takes a few months to fully realize the effects, mainly because it takes that long for your body to naturally dispose of the fat cells. And yes, you can lose even more with additional appointments if you and your doctor deem it necessary.

So after a few months, your clothes will fit better and you will look better. What’s more, there are no pills or supplements. And as long as you maintain your normal diet and exercise, your long-term results should remain stable.

Ultherapy is another treatment I am very excited about; a non-surgical face and neck treatment that uses ultrasound to actually lift and tone loose or sagging skin without any downtime.

Ultherapy is the only non-invasive treatment that can specifically target the deep foundation below the skin that is addressed in cosmetic surgery without cutting or disrupting the surface of the skin. It is also the only procedure to use ultrasound imaging, which allows us to actually see the layers of tissue we target during treatment and ensure the energy is deposited precisely to where it will be most effective.

A good candidate for Ultherapy is someone with skin that has “relaxed” to the point of looking, and often feeling, less firm. Sagging skin on the eyelids, on the neck or under the chin, for instance, are often the first signs of “maturing” skin. Typically, those in their thirties and older who have mild to moderate skin laxity are candidates.

While Ultherapy is not a replacement for a surgical face lift, there are many people who want some lifting but are not ready for surgery, either mentally, financially or logistically. There are also younger people who want to “stay ahead of the game” as well as those looking to prolong the effects of cosmetic surgery.

If any of these treatments sound like they could be what you are looking for, be sure to see your dermatologist and discuss all options.
